Ooh EYES! How scary!
2007’s Transformers saw the titular 80’s franchise turn into an effects-heavy action blockbuster helmed by Michael Bay. It was pretty damn entertaining in spite of its many MANY flaws (plot holes, sometimes incoherent action sequences, annoying characters, etc). Still, as far as stupid action went, it was easily one of the most fantastically entertaining films made all year and the special effects, chase scenes, epic robot battles, and huge explosions were ridiculously cool. Transformers had a fairly sequel-inducing ending and that’s where summer 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen comes in. Is it better though?

The news of yet another death comes to our attention today in the form of Billy Mays. He was apparently found dead in his home by his wife. Billy Mays, who was best known as a TV pitchman, will be remembered for his distinct voice and ability to make you NEED whatever crap he was trying to sell. He was 50 years old and the cause of death is yet unknown, but should be revealed by the autopsy. The family will not be making any statements and has been asked for privacy with regards to his unfortunate death. The news was first broken on twitter. Sad. I wanted every product you ever sold Billy.
Yeah sure, he was weird. But you can't deny the talent. RIP.
Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, is dead. I don’t mean metaphorically dead, I mean really dead. He was found today June 25th 2009 in his home at 12:30pm by paramedics. The 50 year old icon died of a heart attack. He was a controversial figure, and I don’t have the evidence or experience necessary to salvage his public image or to slander him. So let me just say that his musical talent was phenomenal, and there most certainly was just cause for his fame. My condolences go out to all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.

Gripe #1: Tom Welling will NEVER wear the Superman suit. He doesn't want to. Sure he's spent 8 seasons on a show about Superman, but he doesn't want to wear the suit and become typecast... He wants big roles... Like Cheaper by the Dozen 3... Stop photoshopping his face onto Superman costumes!
I watch Smallville and I know it’s a horrible show. I watch it anyway. Why? Because I love Superman. Granted, Smallville is now some awkward bastardized version of the original mythos, but I watch it nonetheless, hoping season after season that it will somehow improve. Season 9 is fast approaching, and will air in its new time slot on Friday, September 27th at 8pm. Two big roles have been cast: Zod, the evil Kryptonian general who was made famous in Superman II back in the 80’s when Christopher Reeve was still Superman, and Metallo, the iconic cyborg super-villain. As with every season, I hope for the best but expect the worst.
